Add Pullquotes for a More Professional Blog

There are more than 50 million blogs on the Internet now, and thousands more are added every day.  If you want to keep readers’ attention in this hypercompetitive environment, you must create posts that both look interesting and read well.

This is an example of a basic pull quote.

Pullquotes are one of the easiest ways to add a little style to your blog post.  They break up large blocks of text, reinforce the key points in your post, and make your blog look more professional.  As common as they are in offline print media—such as magazines—pullquotes are rarely used on blogs; they are therefore an effective way to help your blog stand out from the crowd.

What is a pullquote?

A pullquote is a short quotation from the body of written text, printed in a contrasting style.  Pullquotes typically use a different color, font, and spacing than the main text.

You don’t need to be a web wizard to add pullquotes to your blog post.  Anyone can do it by following these simple steps…

1. Write your post, but don’t publish it yet. 
2. Select a text snippet to use as your pullquote.
3. View your post-in-progress in HTML mode.  You will notice that each paragraph is delimited by a <p> and a </p> tag.
4. Insert the following HTML/CSS code between paragraphs:
   <p style="float: right; width: 120px; font-size: 1.3em; color: red"> YOUR PULLQUOTE TEXT GOES HERE <p>
5. Preview or publish your newly improved post.
