Silverback Squeezes Slice With Shocking Speed

Kimbo Slice and Seth Petruzelli

On October 4, 2008, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson accepted a last-minute unscheduled fight with a relative unknown. Kimbo entered the match with advantages in strength, weight, and reach. His opponent, Seth “Silverback” Petruzelli, held the advantage of greater experience.

In a shocking outcome that should inspire martial artists everywhere, experience won.

What have we learned from this event?

  1. Sun Tzu would probably frown on fighting someone about whom you know nothing. It just doesnt’ seem very wise.

  2. Well, Kimbo didn’t trip, he just went head on with his guards down. Newbie Slice got his ass wipped, expirience is everything.

  3. I agree, Kimbo is used to fighting street fighters, he needs a lot more training if he is going to fight even semi-pro fighters like Silverback.

  4. @Dojo Rat

That was the first thing I thought when I saw that.

  5. Dojo Rat, he was definitely paid to take a fall. In fact, he probably got paid more in those 14 seconds than we earn in a year! But that doesn’t mean he threw the match. 😉

  6. experience is everything kimbo is more of a boxer if u look at his street fights he is’nt ready for mma fights just yet but that trip did look faked

  7. Man that was the first thing I thought when I saw the footage. What the hell kinda fall was that? Either a really bad newbie mistake or it was rigged. Still, why pay Kimbo to take a fall? Elite X is banking on him and this only hurts his ability to draw viewers. A few more fights like this and he’ll lose what star appeal he has.

  8. Kimbo took worse punishment in his last fights and survided, so the fact that he went down after such a weak punch is really questionable. However, sometimes, if you hit right on the button, it does not need much force at all to do damadge.

  9. Kimbo is showing his in experience in competition. He rushed in expecting to pound his opponent and got caught.

  10. Marks, looking at 7:52 in the video, it appears to me that Kimbo was done in by a loss of balance, more than by the jab. Obviously, he needs more Taiji training. 😉

Andy, you’re right. Haste makes waste. He needs more meditation practice too. 🙂

  11. when seth put his leg up i think that was what made him lose his balence kimbo was proberly hit by seth’s leg alot of kick boxers do the same thing put there knee up to defend against attacks

  12. This fight was a bit disappointing but I can’t argue with the outlook. Silverback seized the opportunity when Kimbo lost his guard and fell. Experience does count for a lot no matter the other factors in the fight.
